Rap

As part of the Amerisong project, the students worked with poet Brenda Read-Brown and came up with a great rap. Each school house worked on individual sections.

EARTH NORTH

The Indians lived from the buffalo,
Sitting in a wigwam, right down low.
They believed in peace but they had a lot of grief -
The white man came and killed their chief.

AIR SOUTH

The American nation needed a solution -
Representation and a…. constitution.
They fought the British in the independence war
And declared that they were free for sure.

EARTH SOUTH AND FIRE SOUTH

Africans were stolen, sold and shipped,
Packed in holds, abused and whipped
They slaved all day on the cotton plantation,
With exhaustion, grief and… separation.

AIR NORTH

This  - was -  the Civil War
Young men ready to open hell’s door.
Fighting -  dying -  for what they believed in
Mothers, fathers, sisters grieving.  (1-2-3-4-)

WATER SOUTH

The smoky locomotive is on its way,
Travelling across the USA;
With a hiss and a thunk and a clackety-clack,
The whistle blows and it rattles down the track.

WATER NORTH

America and Russia had a big space race
To a beautiful, dusty, rocky place –
Brave men flying for the USA –
Boy oh boy – that was the day!

FIRE NORTH

It’s Saturday night – the High School dance –
Boys and girls looking for romance.
Teenagers driving and drinking Coke –
Racing their cars and stopping for a smoke.

CHORUS

This is the US, the US of A;
The land of freedom – or so they say.
We’ve heard a little tale of its history,
And now it’s time for you to hear from me.
