Cartoon Club
Students at Isambard had fun creating and storyboarding cartoon characters in this cartoon club.
Professional illustrator Fred Blunt led the sessions which included:
- Creating cartoon characters
- Developing the characters
- Producing model sheets of characters
- Learning to make characters act
- Putting characters in an environment.
Amazed
Fred said, "The main aim of the cartoon club was to give the children the confidence to create their own cartoon characters. I personally have been amazed, not only by how imaginative and original the characters are, but also how well conceived they have been. Over the course I have set some pretty tricky exercises, designed to push the children's visualisation skills as well as drawing. This hasn't fazed them at all, resulting in some really high quality work.
"As well as drawing we have had the opportunity to use the MACS to produce slick, highly finished images and will go on to explore mixed media. I find that cartoons are a great way to get children interested in art and brilliant at improving drawing skills in an imaginative way."
