Anti Bullying Film

An anti bullying film, made by Swindon students, was shown in schools throughout the borough.
Year 6 pupils, from Moredon Primary School, worked with Swindon Council’s youth film team Mobile Media, and their professional filmmakers, to raise awareness of possible bullying through texting and the internet.
Police Sergeant Andrew Carr, of the North Swindon Neighbourhood Policing team, whose idea the film was, said Sticks and Stones has been trialled and was then shown to over a dozen primary schools, as part of their teaching on personal safety and awareness of bullying.
He explained, “It’s for Year 5 and 6 pupils and their parents to show there are different ways of bullying these days. In the tests the film hit home because the children recognised the school, and that made it more relevant. They were engrossed by it and it provoked interesting and thoughtful conversations, having a positive impact. I’m very, very pleased with it, it’s absolutely superb.”
Moredon’s Community Tutor Tracie McGrory agreed that the finished product is powerful. “I was absolutely amazed at the impact it had on the children. I sat near the front so that I could see their faces, they were all enthralled by it and, had the sound been turned down, you could have heard a pin drop.
