Farewell to Flux

Over 7,000 people took part in a £1.3m government-funded pilot project to see if arts activities can positively affect young people – and discourage anti-social behaviour. The three year Flux project, based in the new housing estates of North Swindon, worked with local schools and the community to share opportunities in filmmaking, animation, web design, salsa drumming, puppet making, cartoon clubs, community festivals and much more.
Arts Blast 3

Isambard students enjoyed Arts Blast 3 - a period of ten days when curriculum based subjects were delivered using arts activities. Year 8s discovered War and Peace through an Alien invasion, while Year 7s looked at Southern Ocean by making boomerangs, among other things.

Radio 1s Big Weekend Secret Gig

As part of the BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend Fringe, R1 switch djs, rap artist Ironik, and X-factor runners up JLS, made a secret visit to Swindon's Nova Hreod school and performed to over a thousand stunned students.
Talent Show

Arts Award success

Flux students continue to excel - all those who entered the March Arts Award moderation have passed. Flux Isambard Documentor Jordan McKenzie, aged 12, gained a silver and his work - which includes video from his time in the Prime Minister press corps - received a special mention.
What a Blast!

Arts Blast 2 was "a great success" as an intensive programme of curriculum arts activities replaced all normal lessons at Isambard School for over a week. Flux provided professional artists to help students write scripts, make puppets, produce a horror movie – and much more!

In the two years since Flux has been running almost 6,000 people - mainly young people - have taken part in arts activities, including filmmaking, animation, digital art and much more. And over 100 artists have led more than 2,200 hours of activities.

Isambard students had a great time taking part in "Arts Blast" - an intensive two week programme of arts activities replacing all normal lessons and delivered by Flux. Comments from students included: "Now we have Arts Blast I jump out of bed in the morning, it's really exciting!"; "It was fun and creative;”; "It's a great opportunity!"

Flux Festival

Hundreds of people, from toddlers to grandparents, enjoyed the Flux Under the Sea Festival on Saturday (September 20). The festival was another important step in the Flux programme of working in North Swindon, creating new traditions for a new community. The weather was glorious and children, dressed as mermaids and pirates, delighted in games, face painting, street theatre, a magical sea grotto and the festival finale - a procession of a huge sea monster and dolphin.

A further 21 Swindon students have just passed their Bronze Arts Award, while Flux participant Sahil Jhamb - age 12 - has become the youngest person in Swindon to gain a silver. Moderators requested a copy of Sahil’s work to show nationally as an example of “excellence”.

Flux Casual Assistant Simon Olney is celebrating his offer on the Film Production course at the prestigious Arts Institute at Bournemouth. Thousands of hopefuls from all over the world apply for this course – considered by many to be Britain’s best film course - and this year Simon is one of just a handful who has made it through.

Just one week after Isambard students won the First Light Movie Award for Best Documentary, Flux are delighted to announce that seventeen Isambard students have passed their Arts Award – a national qualification similar to the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Dramababes

Dramababes is back by popular demand. Following a pilot series in January, these artist-led theatre play sessions for young children are set to continue for a further six weeks, and it is hoped, further into the future.
